As the winter seasons bring colder temperatures, shorter days,
and unpredictable weather, it's crucial to prioritize safety in the
workplace. Here are some key tips and reminders to ensure
everyone stays safe and productive this winter season.
Hazards
:
Cold Stress: Risks of frostbite, hypothermia, and chilblains for
outdoor workers or those exposed to cold environments.
Reduced Visibility: Fog, shorter daylight hours affecting outdoor
work and driving safety.
Vehicle-Related Accidents: Increased likelihood of accidents due
to fog, or vehicle malfunction in cold weather.
Fire Hazards: Increased use of space hea ters or heating systems
that may lead to electrical fires or improper use accidents.
Health Issues: Hig her incidence of colds, flu, and other illnesses
spreading in indoor, enclosed spaces .
Hypothermia: Dehydration risk due to reduced water intake in
colder weather.
Precautionary
measures :
Stay dry, Use warm, insulated clothing, gloves, hats, and
waterproof footwear(incase working with water)
Follow all safety precautions during the fog condition.
Conduct regular maintenanc e and inspections of equipment
and machinery before and during winter.
Stay hydrated wit h warm, non-alcoholic, an d non-caffeinated
beverages like tea or soup.
Keep heating equipment away from flammable materials and
never leave it unattended.
Do not neglect the medication.
Main tain a proper posture during the work to avoid mu scle
pains in winter season.

Driving in fog can be one of the most challenging task
during adverse weather conditions, due to reduced
visibility and s lower reaction times. To ensure your safety
and the safety of others on the road, it's cruc ial to adjust
your driving habits a nd remain vigilant. Below are essential
tips to help you navigate safely during foggy weather.
While Driving in Fog
Plan your trip in advance.
Clean the outsides and insides of windshields and windows,
& check wiper blades for wear.
Reduce the speed and be careful.
Maintain safe distance between vehicles.
Turn on low beam headlights & Fog lights.
Do not use your hazard signal as this will confuse others.
Beware of drivers who do not use their headlights.
Be careful at junctions, roundabouts & intersections.
If fog is too thick, step off the gas and wait till fog clears!
Remember that fatigue is very common during these
conditions.
Hold Off On Unnecessary trips where possible.
Space Heater Safety
Check for visible damage, such as cracks, frayed
cords, or loose connections.
Keep the heater at least 1 meter (3 feet) away from
flammable materials like curtains, furniture, or
bedding.
Turn off the heater when leaving the room or going to
sleep.
Plug the heater directly into a wall socket, not an
extension cord or power strip, to reduce fire risk.
Do not use oil heaters in wet or damp areas like
bathrooms or near pools.
Do not dry clothes or place objects on or near the
heater to prevent overheating.
Always unplug the heater when not in use. Let it cool
before handling or moving.
